This handmade potato basket is the original "Aroostook County Potato" basket. This handmade basket is 15 inches in diameter and was used by potato pickers to remove the harvested potatoes from the farmer's fields in the fall. This Maine potato basket is made from the brown ash tree. After harvesting the tree is soaked and pounded into thin strips that are weaved into a basket. The handle is hand carved from the ash. This handmade basket was designed by Native Americans and is durable enough to be used on a regular basis and can withstand the weather.
